Deb, New York – Gift Donor
Our son, Sgt. Kade O'Brien, was an active advocate for Toys for Tots while serving, and all three of our children grew up contributing and looking forward to shopping for TFT as kids. Both boys joined the Marines after college and high school and were very well regarded in the Corps. Kade was one of the youngest in recent years to be made a Sergeant while in Afghanistan, just before his 20th bday. While at home a year after leaving Marines to continue his education (and wondering WHY he left anyway), Kade was killed by a woman turning in front of his motorcycle. Thus was born, The Kade Project, a non-profit in his name (www.thekadeproject.com) which assists in any way we can in our area. One of the many things we do and the most fulfilling, since 2012, is to volunteer with TFT. We coordinate in southern Monroe City for those who can’t possibly get into Rochester or Syracuse, and we set up collections, distribution and giving here, closer for them. This year, we again have 28 businesses and schools collecting.
Last year, a young man, whose mother had been a close friend of Kade's from grade school on, contacted his grandmother and requested all of his birthday presents be given to TFT in Honeoye Falls. The gifts were mailed to us here in NY (11 gifts and $20 cash to buy more) to honor his mom's good friend. Brayden contacted me personally this year in November to make sure it's okay for him to do that again. I'm told I will be receiving a large box with 17 presents this time, honoring Kade and what we do in his memory. Yay for TFT - continuing to make a difference!
